This week, Gísli Níls the founder and CEO of Alda Safety gave a so-called "Founder's lunch" talk for the group of entrepreneurs who are starting their journey in Startup SuperNova, the business accelerator of KLAK – Icelandic Startups. In the talk, he introduced Alda and shared the experience of the Alda- team from participating in the accelerator last year.

The safety app Agga, developed by Alda Safety for small boat fishermen, has quickly established itself as a powerful tool for Icelandic small boat fishermen. The app has now been launched in the Faroe Islands and in just 2 weeks, around 50% of Faroese small boat fishermen have started using the app.

Last week, a fire broke out in the engine room of Síldarvinnslan's vessel Barði NK 120 off the Faroe Islands. The incident attracted a lot of attention as it was a serious emergency where quick response and good planning were crucial in preventing a serious incident.

Alda Safety participated in the Atlantic Fair maritime exhibition held in the Faroe Islands recently, where we had very good and useful conversations with ship and operator managers, fishermen and numerous stakeholders in the fishing industry.

We at Alda Safety would like to sincerely congratulate Skinney-Þinganes and the crew of Ásgrímur Halldórsson on their new and impressive ship, which sailed home to Höfn in Hornafjörður earlier this month.

Alda Safety and Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) are now collaborating on the promotion of the Agga app, which is free for small-boat fishermen across the country. The goal of the collaboration is to increase the safety of small-boat fishermen with simple and accessible solutions that support safe fishing.

Alda Safety is attending the Atlantic Fair, a maritime exhibition taking place in the Faroe Islands on May 19th-21st. The exhibition is an important and exciting platform for the North Atlantic maritime industry, where companies, fishing companies and professionals from the industry come together to share experiences and present innovations.

Alda Safety participated in the Blue Open House of the Ocean Cluster last week. The event, which was part of the Iceland Innovation Week, was very well attended and created a lively atmosphere where diverse companies presented their operations and innovations in the blue economy.

The Alda team is looking forward to participating in the Iceland Innovation Week, at the Blue Open House of the Iceland Ocean Cluster at Grandagarður 16, on Thursday, April 30. The event is part of the Iceland Innovation Week program and runs from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

The implementation of the Alda safety management system has now begun on the rescue vessels of Landsbjörg - The Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR), and the first vessel to get Alda is Jóhannes Briem, the rescue vessel in Reykjavík. This marks the beginning of the project to put Alda into use on all of ICE-SAR's rescue vessels in the coming months.

We at Alda are extremely proud that North Sailing is the first whale watching company in Iceland to implement the Alda safety management system. This marks a milestone in whale watching safety, as we take an important step together in bringing the same discipline, data-driven approach and professionalism that has been developed with and used by the country's largest fishing companies - to whale watching passenger ships.

Fiskifréttir recently had an article on the importance of grants from the Icelandic Transport Authority for innovative companies working to improve safety at sea. This included an interview with Gísli Níls, CEO of Alda Safety, who emphasized that such grants are not only important financial assistance but also a strong incentive and quality seal for new solutions.

Alda Safety has recently been selected as part of the "national team" of blue economy startups by the Icelandic Ocean Cluster. The list includes 20 companies that all have in common that they are working on innovative and important solutions within ocean and marine-related activities.

Alda Safety is very proud to have signed an agreement with the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) to implement the Alda safety management system in all of their rescue ships. This is a major milestone for us and great recognition of the work that has been put into developing and building the system.

Recently, Fiskifréttir (Viðskiptablaðið) published an interesting article about Alda, which states among other things that 65% of the country's largest fishing companies have already implemented the safety management system. It also states that discussions have begun with foreign fishing companies, including in the Faroe Islands and the United Kingdom, regarding the further expansion of Alda.

A demonstration of Alda was held with crew members on board Þórunn Þórðardóttir this week and the functionality of the Alda-app and system was reviewed. The crew was very interested and asked a lot of questions about the various issues related to the use and functionality of Alda. It is interesting that a new employee of Alda, Þórunn Harðardóttir, bears the same name as the ship.

We at Alda are very proud to start the year with a valuable new client - the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute. Before the research vessel Árni Friðriksson set off on a capelin search earlier this week, a demonstration of Alda was held for all crew members. The crew was very excited about Alda and CEO Eggert B. Guðmundsson also came on board to get learn about the increased emphasis on safety at sea with Alda.

In connection with the Startup SuperNova business accelerator, the Alda team was given access to three people from the mentoring service of Klak – Icelandic Startups. We at Alda were lucky enough to be assigned great people from whom we learned a lot.

The Seafood Conference 2025 is currently taking place at the Harpa conference center and yesterday Gísli Níls, CEO and founder of Alda Safety, was the moderator of one of the events there. The session was entitled Stories of Innovation and guests heard four interesting presentations from people within the innovation field in the Icelandic fisheries sector.

Recently, the creative crew of Gullver certainly seized the opportunity when they saw three fishing containers floating east of the country. They decided to quickly conduct a Man Overboard rescue drill, as the operations of “rescuing containers” are quite comparable to those of rescuing a person from the sea.

The Kaldvík aquaculture company signed an agreement earlier this week at the Icelandic Fishing Expo to implement Alda on its boats in its operations in the east of Iceland.

The Alda team will have a booth at the Iceland Fishing Expo which will be held in Laugardalshöll from September 10th to 12th.

The Alda team, along with 7 other teams from the Startup SuperNova business accelerator and numerous other Icelanders from the innovation sector, attended the TechBBQ conference in Copenhagen last week.

A development collaboration between Alda and Arnarlax began this spring, to adapt and develop the Alda safety system specifically for the needs of aquaculture companies. The project involves adapting Alda to the conditions of aquaculture, as well as connections to employee safety, rescue drills and safety equipment on Arnarlax boats.

This powerful entrepreneurial program is a collaboration between Nova, KLAK and other key players in the Icelandic innovation environment and has proven to be a great opportunity for entrepreneurial companies in recent years.

Alda Security recently participated in SuperClass, a workshop organized by StartUp SuperNova that is intended for entrepreneurial teams with innovative ideas and a desire to develop them further in a targeted manner.

The freezer trawler Tómas Þorvaldsson from the company Grindavík Seafood has now joined our group of users and implemented the Alda safety management system on board.

Alda's innovation in maritime safety for fishermen in Iceland is attracting international attention on the Maritime Innovation information site, which highlights leading innovations in the global fishing industry.

Alda received the Fisheries Iceland Motivation Award at its annual meeting on April 4 th.

The Agga app, developed by the innovation company Alda Öryggi, is offered free of charge to Icelandic small-boat fishermen.

There has been a lot of Alda-ing in seafarer safety at Brim. In March, 3 ships, Sólborg RE 27, Helga María RE 3 and Viðey RE 50, all implemented the Alda safety management system on board.

The aquaculture company Arnarlax and the innovation company Alda Öryggi have entered into a formal partnership to implement the Alda Safety Management System on board all service vessels and feed barges operated by Arnarlax.

The safety of fishermen is crucial and they know that well on board Pál Jónsson VE at Vísir ehf. There, the safety awareness of the crew is paramount, and rescue drills are a regular part of the activities on board - even during the free shift.

Alda was nominated and recognized for the 'Svifaldan' innovation award at the Maritime Industry Conference last week.

The crew on board Bergur at Bergur-Huginn ehf has joined Aldan in improving matters of fishermen's safety after a successful safety meeting with the representatives of Alda and Palli the safety manager at Síldarvinnslan hf.

At the beginning of October, Hoffell's and Ljósafell's crews held a fire drill with Fjarðabyggð's fire brigade.

At the Icelandic fisheries exhibition, Garðar Svavarsson the CEO of Loðnuvinnslan, signed a contract with Alda for the implementation of the safety management system on board the company's ships.
